VIKINGS REPORT

Hi everybody

Another season has passed and the Vikings are going strong.

It has been a big learning curve for me having taken on the job of Co-Ordinator and I hope we have achieved what we set out to do.

Last season (2009/10) we lost Ben Cheslak and Gareth Aylesbury through age but they have not lost contact with us as Ben is a Helper and Gareth pops in when on holiday from University at Preston. I last saw him on the Saturday of finals day and he wished us all well. We will be losing JOE PARKER and LEWIS ELLIS, although Lewis has expressed an interest in coming back as a Helper. But on the bright side we had several new members join, namely JOE and SOPHIE NOLAN, HOLLY GILBERT and SUNNY RAY BAKER. We welcomed back ELLIE DYKE and DANIEL McNULTY. We also had a new coach join us NIKKI GOVER

The Vikings had several members participating in the EBYDS with Marcus Street, Emily Chadwick, Graham Street and Adam Boarer qualifying in the under 18’s and Amy Parker and Billy Ladd qualifying in the under 15’s. Marcus qualified for the National finals. Marcus has had another excellent season playing for Wey Valley in all the major Competitions and helped the Club to win the London and Southern Counties Shield.

Our finals produced some excellent games. There was a “family” duel in the 8yrs to 12 yrs between Joe and Sophie Nolan, Joe coming out on top by 1 Shot.

In the 12 to 15 Billy Ladd beat Graham Street and in the Vikings 15 – 18 Marcus was the winner beating Jake Ladd and in the Club under 18’s Marcus Street beat Lewis Ellis.

The drawn Pairs were won by Joe Parker and Marcus Street beating Ryan Elkin and Jake Ladd and finally the Generation Pairs was won by Janet and Marcus Street beating myself and Lewis Ellis.

Our two Fun days at Christmas and Easter were a great success and numbers of participants was high and produced a few surprises and laughs, which what it was all about

I would like to thank all the coaches and helpers for their support during the season and look forward to seeing everyone again this coming season especially in our NEW SHIRTS.

Should you know of anyone that might like to come along and try playing bowls or already plays we are here from 8.30am till 10.00am every Saturday morning from the start of the Indoor season till the end of April.

Parent, Grandparents Uncles and Aunts thank you for supporting us through the season and I look forward to seeing you all again in October 2011.

Best wishes

John Neal
